The air is thick and the sea is slick. Tide is high and the surf is of the shore break variety. Knee to almost waist high and pretty weak at that. Occasionally there are some pop up peaks that look tantalizingly like real surf; they are quickly and quietly gobbled up by the high tide. Great conditions for just about everything but surfing. Saw reports of massive sting ray encounters in Coronado and a hammerhead shark sighting off Newport Beach. All signs of very warm water. Two people out.

Mostly flat with occasional bursts of knee to waist high surf. Just coming off a 3.8 high tide so the waves are weak and mushy. Smooth sea surface with NE breeze and high tide. The best part is the 75 degree water temp! 75 degrees! Can you dig it?!! Minimal tide shifts with a 1.9 foot low tide is at 11am. 2 people out.

Weak knee to waist high surf with a medium midweek crowd. Sea surface has a fair amount of lump and chatter. No wind. Most of the rideable waves are on the inside, especially the sandbars at Tres Palms. Larger rare set waves folding over on themselves and reforming on the inside. Tide is dropping and will bottom out at 10am (1.7). Turn around maxes out around 2pm ending up with a 5.9 high tide at 5pm. About 15 people out. Clearing skies.

Glassy with predominantly a small south swell. Knee to waist; long long lulls. Outgoing tide. Good shape with a light crowd and partly cloudy skies. Tide bottoms out around 9am then back up to a 5.6 high at 4pm. 10 people out.

Clean with fair shape. Waist to chest high with some larger sets. Some of the sets are closed out but not all. Smooth sea surface conditions, no wind, warm water and a light crowd. Pretty good for a Monday. Tide is on the way out to a 0.7 low at 8am. High tide of 5.3 at 2:30pm. About 12 people out.

Waist to chest high surf this morning. Mostly short period stuff with some soft peaks standing up now and again. Sets are larger but closed out. Smooth sea surface conditions with fog that ebbs and flows. Minus tide but on the way up; more water will help a lot. Soft NW breeze hanging around without much effect on waves. Tide will top out at 5 feet around noon. After that, look for a 1.8 low at 5:30pm. Fog has just blanked out the lineup so it's hard to see the crowd but there are more than a few people out.

Mostly short period windswell surf this morning. Knee to waist to chest depending on what the ocean feels like at the time. Lumpy sea surface and drained out minus tide conditions. Some south swell out there but those come with some long long lulls. More tide is what's needed. And speaking of tide, it's low right now, running up to a 4.7 high at 11:30am (max flood at 9am). Then back out to a 1.8 low at 5pm. About 12 people out.

Mixed bag this morning. A few different swell directions and NE wind swirling about. Surf is waist to shoulder high and wonky. Short period and doubled up; a few peaks here and there breaking into nothing. Hard to catch with short rides. Slightly lumpy sea surface. Smaller crowd than the beginning of the week. Low tide; incoming to a 4.6 high at 11am. Low of 1.9 at 4pm. About 15 people out.

Slow going this morning. Waist to almost chest high on the rare and inconsistent sets. Conditions are ideal; no wind, smooth sea surface and a medium incoming tide situation. Crowd is small by Del Mar standards but still too many people for the sparse wave count. But hey, it's summer, the water is 71 and the skies are clearing. So get out there! High tide is at 10:30am (4.4). Low tide is at 3:30pm (1.9).

Glassy conditions. Waist to chest south swell peelers. Light Monday crowd. What could be better? Set waves are just a tad walled up and closey. Tide is coming up to a 4.2 at 10 am then coming back down to a 2.0 low at 3pm. About 12 people out.

Not as clean as yesterday but a lot more southern hemi energy in the water. Surf is in the belly to chest range with some shoulder high sets. Shape is lined up and can crumble over and close out on the largest of the set waves. Some sweet corners if you're in the right place. Wind is out of the SW and has put a crinkle and lump on the water. Tide is just past it's peak of 3.3 feet and heading out to a 2.2 low at 1pm about 15 people out.

Some light wind swirling around but we still have clean conditions. Surf is being powered by pulses of southern energy being crossed up by some local windswell. Waves are waist to almost chest high. Nice peaks with smooth faces. Fair to good overall. Crowd is a factor with some 30 or more people scratching and scrambling but it still looks like there's enough for everyone. A 3.4 high tide right now. This will ebb out to a 2.2 low tide at noon.

Clean conditions, light offshores and small inconsistent surf. Knee to waist high; maybe chest high in the sets. Peaking up on the outside then dropping off, rolling on through and not breaking till hitting the inside sandbar. Seductive, but not much to it. About 90" off a 3.3 high tide. Max ebb will be around 9am and then a 2.0 low around 11am. 7 people out.

No wind this morning but some leftover bump on the water. Waist to chest high warbly and somewhat erratic windswell peaks. Head high + sets rolling through the lineup to clean it out a bit. It has its moments. Water temp in the low 70's. Mid tide cycle now, flowing out to a 1.6 low at 10am. Next high tide will be at 5pm (5.0). About 20 people out.

Reporting from Terra Mar this morning. Blown out. I mean "white caps" blown out. 8-9 knot ESE wind. Sunny skies. Sea surface is a lumpy mess. Surf is in the waist to chest high range with poor shape. No one out except 3-4 sea lions cruising the shore break. 1.4 low tide around 9:30am then back up to a 4.8 high at 4:30pm.

Minus tide. Tiny, soft windswell peaks. Surf in the calf to knee high zone with some larger south swell sets poking up here and there. A great day for that Costco Wavestorm board you've got stashed away in the garage. Fairly smooth sea surface conditions with a light swirling breeze clocking back and forth between NE and SE. Tide push begins in earnest around 10:45am and a 4.6 high tide at 2pm. Crowd of about 15 sitting way inside the reef hoping for one of those tiny peaks to pop up and slide shoreward.

Winds have backed off and conditions have cleaned up; a lot. Some small scale surf in the knee to thigh high zone. Some larger sets but overall it's soft and mushy. Smooth sea surface conditions with a very light and swirling NE breeze. 3 people out at the reef and about 5 in front of lifeguard station.

Now that conditions have improved can some good surf be far behind? Still in the minus tide zone this morning. Look for a 4.7 high tide at 1pm and a 2.1 low at 6pm. Summer water temps, good. Stingrays, bad. So remember to shuffle those feet and if you do get tagged soak the area in hot water; as hot as you can stand.

Minus tide. Funky onshore winds. Mostly knee to waist high drained out windswell peaks scattered across the line up. Soft and crumbly with poor shape. Broken up and bumpy sea surface conditions. But the water temp is in the low 70's so that's good. High tide of 4.7 feet at noon. Max tidal outflow begins at 3pm with the low tide of 1.9 feet at 5:30pm. Light crowd this morning; 2 people.

Onshore winds are all over it. And the tide is low (-1.4). There's still some swell hanging around but conditions have over-shadowed it. Waist high with some chest high sets with a lot of crumble and chop. The good news is that there's only 4 people out. And there's lots of beach for walking. High tide of 4.7 feet at 11:30am.

Special 4th of July surf report. First off, if you were planning on spending the day at the beach and you're not already here...you're too late. Street parking; gone. Spaces on the lawn; gone. Pay lot parking; still available. For $50.

Anyway, the surf this morning is inconsistent at best but running in the waist to almost chest high zone. Lumpy sea surface with a moderate NE breeze. Poor to poor+ shape. Smallest at the reef; larger around 11th street. Tide is low but already swinging around to a 4.7 high at 10:45am. Then back out to a 1.6 low at 3:45pm. About 15 people out.

Fonely. If only it wasn't windy! A full on SSW 5knot wind has really messed with conditions and the surf this morning. Almost blown out; not quite but very very close. Mostly long NW wind swell lines with the rare south peak. Waist to chest junk; shoulder high on the sets. Choppy sea surface conditions. About 30 people out.
