Team Body Glove Scores In Northern Baja

These are some insane barrels (click here)!  Makes me really wish that a trip to Baja wasn't so dicey.  Although, Ian and Rodney still go there on a regular basis.

Cleaned up and......

Ready to go....except for that pesky poo water! Very clean conditions with very slight offshores. High tide, thigh to waist high rollers. Fair shape,4 guys out. Less tide will help a lot. Tomorrow everything will be good to go. See you in the water!

This Is Just Not Right

VAS conditions. Strong onshores, ankle high storm slop; no one out. Not a surf day. Stay in bed or get into the office a little early to catch up.

How can it be that this series of storms from the NPAC have not produced some decent surf days for us? Karma (whose)? Timing? Bad luck? Angry surf gods? If you know the answer AND the cure, let me know quick!

Tiny Wednesday

Man, it is a really nice morning! Sun, no wind and none of that bitter, ear freezing cold. Now if the surf was just that good; even a fraction of that good.
Small (knee to waist high) low tide lines. Not much shape or snap. Looks like there are some sets every once in a while that might be fun but that involves a lot of waiting and being in the right place. It's not THAT warm! 5 guys out.

A Frigid February Morning at 15th Street

40 degrees and stiff off shore breezes.  This is SoCal?

A beautiful sunrise with the moon still hanging around

Low, low tide

Small, short period wind swell on tap this morning

A beauty but only knee high

John's windsock has morphed into a wind ribbon!

Low tide, dirty water

And it's COLD! Semi clean, moderate off shores, waist to maybe chest high. Short period, fair shape. Looks best south of reef.

But, in my opinion, not worth it. To all of you who opted out today because of the poo water, congratulations! You pass the IQ test. For those 6 of you out at 15th street today, WTF, has the cold water frozen your brain cells, are you unaware or just stupid? Whatever.

Have a great Presidents day holiday everyone!

King Tide

For those of us attention span deficits; an interesting time lapse video by Andrew Huse of the King Tide at the Cliffs from 6:30am to 2:30pm.  a complete tide cycle in 30 seconds!  Take a look!

T'was a Dark and Stormy

Morning. Actually it's not stormy at all but it is grey with storm clouds. High tide, clean surface conditions, off shores, shoulder to head high set waves. Fair shape. 12 people out.
The high tide is making it challenging to drop in on anything but the set waves. Safety tip: unless the set wave you catch is your ride in, don't go for the first wave of the set. Going with the second or even third one will 1. be far less crowded and 2. make for a much easier paddle back out to the line up.

Big Thursday?

Short report this morning; got class today. Clean conditions; surf is all over the place. Shoulder high, short period lines trying their best to push through the high tide. Poor plus to fair minus shape. No one out. Lots of grey whale spouts right in front of the kelp beds.

Pretty Much What You'd Expect

Drizzly skies, no wind, high tide, empty parking lot. Knee to chest high, fair surface conditions, fair - to poor+ shape. No one out. But someone just pulled up, jumped out of his car and is now pulling on his wetsuit; not a local.

Enough precipitation for some runoff so the water quality is sketchy but it's not like there is quality surf out there. So these conditions should not be generating much surf angst at all, if any. However, if there is a break in the weather tomorrow and the waves are decent, will you succumb to the sirens' call? Or will you sit it out and wait for the water to clear?

Calm Before the Storm?

Extremely smooth surface conditions; almost glassy. Just a hint of an off shore. Knee to waist high. The tide is sucking some of the life out of it but there are some clean lines pushing through. Plus it's not crowded at all; 5 guys out. Looks best just north of the ramp. Might be a good day to hit it before the wave of storms roll over us.

No Surf Today

Very, very small and gutless. The much touted swell is a no show this morning. To borrow a phrase from Jon Walker, it's double over ankle. And not much more. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Needs just a little more water

Eddy left and in her place are bright, clear skies, cold air, and off shore breezes. Thigh to waist high, poor to fair shape. Pretty close period stuff, one right on top of the other. Shape should improve with the tide. No body out at the reef; 8 out at the sandbar in front of the grass.

Eddy, Eddy, Eddy!

Strong eddy conditions this morning. Combine that with a marginal swell situation and you get what you see in the photo; weak, crumbly waist high waves groomed by sick south winds. 4 guys out in front of the ramp. Nowhere else. Good day to catch up on all that stuff around the house or office that you have been putting off.

I Can See! I Can See!

No fog this morning. That's good. Waves, however, have kinda disappeared. That's not good. Low tide, fairly clean, thigh to waist high, fair to poor shape. Some shoulders to hop on if you're in the right spot. 6 guys out.

Frosty Friday

Holy canoli! It's freaking cold! So cold that Luke is actually wearing a jacket; along with basketball shorts and sandals, but I digress. Some lulls, but watch out for head high plus totally walled up, close out sneaker sets. They will hunt you down and bounce you off the bottom.

Mostly waist to chest high and kinda walled up, even with the incoming tide. Fair to middlin' shape. About 20 guys out. Did I mention that it is COLD?

Terrible Thursday

High tide, strong easterlies, not much in the way of waves. Nice looking lines; no juice at all. Swallowed up by all that water. Major wind chill factor to contend with this morning. If you just gotta hit it you might consider suiting up at home. 8 Popsicles out in the line up.

Windy Wednesday

Lots of wind. Perfectly offshore. Not much swell. High tide is not helping; smothering what waves are attempting to make their way to shore. Cold too. Good day to minimize skin exposure; gloves and a hood for sure.
Some bump on the water but not a choppy situation. In fact, there are some exceptionally clean lines showing; they're just not amounting to much. Look but don't touch.
Waist high slow rollers. Almost impossible to catch unless you like trying to ride the shore pound. 6 out. Empty parking lot.

Super Tuesday

Cleaned up considerably from yesterday. Stronger east winds grooming wave faces and providing substantial wind chill. Waist high, head high sets; fair shape. Short period so the sets are pretty stacked up Most vertical at Tres Palmas (and most consistent). About 15 people out.
The high tide has dampened the energy and even the set waves are hard to drop into. Will probably get better as the tide drops if the wind stays down. Not too shabby.
