Sun, Sun, sun

Here it comes! Wow! A sunny morning at last. Too bad there are absolutely no waves. Smooth glassy conditions with double over ankle bombs rolling through. However, I'm leaving on a trip to Flagstaff tomorrow so you know the surf will come up while I'm gone. Happens. Every. Time.

Oily Glass

On tap this morning. Not too much in the way of surf however. Knee to waist high; fair shape; long waits. 12 guys out. Wait, here comes a set; solid waist high, really pretty, short ride. Looks about right for me and my log.

Surf de Jour

Today's offering consists of an ankle to knee high shore dump topped with a rare waist high set wave and a side of diving pelicans.
About 15 guys out, waiting to place their order but the waiter is nowhere to be seen. Typical; no tip for him!!
And to top it off Kenny says the food (when it does come) is cold. Water temp has dropped back to the mid 60's. Oh well, it is what it is.

Not as Clean

As the last 2 days but it's way more crowded. 20 guys out in a big clot right on the reef. Scrambling for knee to waist high crumblers. Some faces to work with on the sets; more tide will help. Some swirling wind gusts here and there. Watch out for the sting rays; I had one tracking my every move yesterday.

Grey, Gray, Grey

Ocean's grey. Sky's gray. Even the sand is grey. Yes, it's a monochrome day here. Not quite as glassy as yesterday but still calm and smooth surface conditions. Set waves look to be waist to chest high; with that just coming off low tide shape. 12 people out and struggling to catch what's coming their way. But yesterday was much better than it looked especially after the tide filled in some.

Conditions Are Better

but the surf is not. Glassy, knee to waist high, inconsistent peaks here and there. Sets are shoulder high. 3 people out. If you've got time and patience I'd say it's probably worth it. Cause the water's warm and the crowd is non existent.

A Little Mixed Up

Weak, jumbled up, knee to waist high wind swell waves. Light NE breeze with light surface texture. Low tide and not much focus or definition with this morning's surf. Poor+ shape; fair conditions. Long boardable at best. 9 guys out including Luke, Chuck and Ken. I'm not going to make it 10.

Don't forget the ukulele festival this weekend at Liberty Station! See you all there, right?

Wha' 'Appened?

Junky conditions and junky surf. Weak waist high crumblers with no shape, no direction, no purpose (kind of like some people I know). Stiff south west wind and ugly surface conditions. Today is not a surf day.

SanO

Luke, Dave and I made the trek to SanO this morning. Pumped for some of that south juice pouring into SoCal we had some high expectations. We scored some shoulder to head high waves and a light crowd. One tiny little detail; a strong SE wind was playing havoc with conditions and blowing some blinding spray back in your face on take off.

Still, there are no waves like SanO waves. It was great. Gotta do this again soon.

The Gang's All Here

And then some. 40+ people already in the line up. Super glassy. Very inconsistent. The sets are about the only thing ridable. Waist to chest to maybe shoulder high. Favoring the lefts. Breeze is starting to pick up so if you're going out now would be a good time to hit it.

Swell Lines

As far as you can see. Large southwest swell is crashing onto San Diego beaches this morning. Much more consistent than yesterday; bigger too. Head high to head high plus. Bigger set waves but not much shape on those. Fairly brisk SW wind but it's not messing with the surface conditions or waves. Yet. 25 guys out.

Slow, small and inconsistent

Waist high with fair + conditions. There are some bigger sets but not much shape to them. Little bit of bump on it; thin marine layer. And Kenny is back in the line up. Luke, Chuck and Jett here too. Water temp must be back up; everyone is wearing spring suits. 16 guys out.
I've got to get out there just to wash all the Arizona off me (which is where I was for the last 3 days).

Let the Weekend Begin!

Welcome to the looooooong July 4th weekend. High temps inland ensure a crowded beach scene so bring some patience.

Surf is, well, difficult to describe. Peaky, shifty, knee to waist high on some sets, with fair to poor shape. Low tide is not helping. But it is glassy. 12 people out including Chuck, John and Barb.
Looks inviting but I think I'm going to get fooled.
