Always cold, no sunshine

Al Gore? Nope, Tom Petty from "Runnin' Down Dream".

Calm wind, smooth surface conditions, 2-3 feet and 30+ guys out. Kenny's assessment: "water is about 60, crowded and people taking off in front of you on close outs". Sounds perfect to me!

Aloha
Have a good one. Here's a photo I took of the Waimea shore break last winter.

Ick!

No wind (yet), clean conditions and a few pick and choose corners. Waist high and pretty slow but this is the biggest it's been all week. 9 guys out.

Have a good one

Aloha

Gary. This is a photo I took at Pipeline this past winter season.

Stupid Eddy!

One would think that if it can't be sunny then at least it shouldn't be WINDY! But no, we get both barrels. How great is that?

Knee to waist high junk with a stiff south wind, no shape, no tide but no crowd either. But as the master (we all know who that is, right?) would say; "just wait grasshopper, it will get better".

Have a good one.

Has Anybody Seen the Sun?

Clean conditions, ankle to knee high waves (pretty weak though) and 14 guys out. Long boardable at best. We are in the doldrums right now.

To make it even more fun, the sting rays are out in force so keep on sufflin' and watch out that you don't get snagged by the surf fisherman who insists on casting directly in the surf zone.

Have a good one.

Turtle Days and Aquarium Waves

Turtles are everywhere here.  In the surf, on the rocks, on the beach.  They act like they own the place!

Lack of sandy beaches makes for super clear water.  Check this out.

Have a good one.

At Least the Water is Warm

Surf has been on a steady decline here over the past few days. Locals are predicting a new south pulse to arrive any time now. But this morning we have small scale surf (waist high), light winds and lumpy surface conditions.

Tide is high so waves are backing off. Banyans has the only real waves to speak of and that line up is clotted with SUPs. Lymans (sp) just to the south is flat but there are occasional waves attempting to break but you have to be uncomfortably close to the rocks to slide into one.

Heading into Kailua-Kona this afternoon for a concert on the palace grounds.

Have a good one.

Aloha

A Thing of the Past?

Is it possible that what we are experiencing today means that this sort of stuff (see video) is done, finished, nevermore (at least for the rest of the summer)?  Has Chuck lifted the curse?  Will it only last as long as I'm in Hawaii?

Have a good one.

A Month of Del Mar; Read 'em and Weep

Lots of wanking (including me) about the effects of this never ending coastal eddy; early south or west wind, overcast, drizzle, cooler temps. And it's supposed to be summer.  But hey, the water's warm, right?  That got me to thinking; have we had any summer like days in since mid May?  So I went back through my daily Del Mar photos for the CSSR; you be the judge.  The photos are from May 17th to June 23rd.

I'm Outta Here

A lot like yesterday except a lower tide has sucked even more life out of it and there is a north west eddy breeze swirling around. Aren't you glad you went out yesterday?

Ankle to knee high mush burgers, bumpy conditions and 4 somethings out. That's it, I've had it, I'm going to Hawaii island tomorrow; sun, warm water, diving and maybe even some surf at Banyans.

So, I'll be blogging from there for a while.

Have a good one.

No wind!

The eddy is not as strong as the last 4 days and the cloud cover seems thinner (my imagination?). Unfortunately the surf is pretty weak.

Knee to waist high with slightly larger sets but no shape at all to them. Fairly clean with just a slight bump on the water. 15 guys out.

Chuck says he is responsible for this run of awful weather and surf but will lift the curse as soon as he can get back in the water; 2-3 weeks!

Have a good one.

Same- o Same-o

Bumpy surface conditions, stiff onshore wind, 2-3 ft crumbling lines with not much shape. 15 guys out and I hear the water temp had dropped a degree or two. Perfect!

Conditions will improve eventually, right? Somebody out there please send in some reassurance that this is not and will not be SoCal surf conditions for evermore!

Have a good one.

Misty morning...........

Can't see no sun; I know you're out there somewhere; havin' fun. (Bob Marley - Kaya)

More of the same this morning. West wind, choppy conditions, waist to chest high crumbly close outs. No peaks, just long closed out lines. About 6 guys out picking off the occasional corner or two.

There's always tomorrow.

Have a good one.

Rain rain go away!

A foul southwest wind mucking it up already. Waist high junk with 5 wave shoulder to head high closeout sets. And rain. Not just the mist that we have been experiencing the last week or so but bonafide, runoff producing precipitation! This is crazy!

Maybe tomorrow.

Have a good one.
