Perfect Swell Direction for Del Mar
Just not enough of it and too much tide. Mostly waist high breaking very close to shore. Occasional larger set waves; emphasis on occasional. Near perfect conditions though. Glassy, no wind and minimal crowd. It may get better as the tide drops but for right now it's subpar.

Sometimes the Lightʻs all Shining on me..
Other times I can barely see. Like this morning for instance. The fog is so thick it's impossible to see anything beyond the shore break. The tide is right and the buoys indicate a 1-2 foot 270 degree swell so there is some surf; I just can't give you an eyewitness report on what it's like.

It's foggy. It's cold.
And the surf is tired. Some long waist to chest high westerly lines this fine morning. Not much shape to it but there is the occasional surprise pop up peak. But mostly it's lined up and closed out. Fog is fairly thick so it difficult to pick up on the waves till they're right on top of you. Which is always exciting. Tide is rising and will top out around 9am at a 5.7. Sea surface is smooth with a light easterly breeze. I think there are about 5 people out; hard to tell.

Shut down
High tide and a weak swell have just about shut down all wave activity at 15th street this morning. And the tide is still rising; to 5.7 at 8:30 am. There are some small knee high lines at Tres Palmas but the reef is flat. Rate sets are closed out across the board. Some fog, good surface conditions and a light easterly breeze. No one out.
