It was a dark and gloomy
Morning! 7am and it's still twilight. Clean conditions with a slight SSE breeze. Haven't seen a set yet but the waves are waist high at best. Long slow rollers with some face to work with. Long lulls. Most consistent and shapely just north of the reef in front of the grass. Pretty feeble. And the incoming tide is not helping. 30 guys out.

High tide lines
Waist high set waves battling the 5+ high tide and for the most part the tide is winning. Fair shape with the biggest sets closing out. Moderate surface ripple with some light offshores. Not much going on in between the sets. 5 people out. And one SUP; he is getting all the waves.

The not so endangered brown trout...
When you visit a friends house and use the toilet that they forgot to flush do you look in and say "wow, that looks too good to pass up" and then proceed to splash toilet water all over yourself and squirt some up your nose for good measure? No? Well that's essentially what you would be doing if you went in the ocean at 15th street in Del Mar over the last few days. And yes, the big yellow "KEEP OUT - SEWAGE CONTAMINATED WATER signs are still up. So why in the world would people stop, read the sign and then keep right on walking into the water? Illiterate? Don't care? Peer pressure? Don't trust the government? Any ideas, let me know.
No surf report from me today 'cause it doesn't matter.

Nope, there's nothing here to see...
Breezy and flat. Not much going on surf wise. Not much of a swell and the conditions are what you'd expect after a storm; lots of chop and chunk. BTW, there was enough rain to raise the poo index to high. But that's not what's keeping people out of the water this morning. It's the total lack of surf.

More organized today

Pay to Play
No more early in's and out's. Will need to feed the bot for the gate to open. Anyway, on to the surf...
Lots of swell in the water this morning. NNW with a hint of S. Peaky on the reef with long lined up walls to the north and south. Shoulder to head high; overhead on the sets. Best shape, fair to good, on the reef. Clean surface conditions, no street parking and 40 people out with more on the way.

Feel like getting wet?
Waist to chest high, glassy but somewhat inconsistent. But if you're in the right place at the right time there are some very shapely waves to ride. They are really standing up and holding up well on the inside section. Luke and Ken just split a peak that was a real screamer. Nice to see those two sharing.

Post storm
Wednesday, October 10, 2012
Dramatic Skies
And wet pavement. Yep, had some precipitation in Del Mar last night. And the ocean has that post storm look; bumpy, choppy and wavelets everywhere. Small, knee high chop with no direction or focus. High school surf PE groms are the only ones out. Not a surf day. Save your petrol for another time.

Clean, clean, clean
Soft, waist high peaks pushing through this morning. Light offshores, glassy conditions and a small crowd (10). Some doubling up but there are some A-frames here and there. Tres Palmas is also waist high but the waves are standing up and pitching out there.
Save the date: paddle out for Bob Fipp on October 13th at 10am at the PowerHouse. Bob is best remembered for his stubborn refusal to surf a long board but still catch more than his share of waves at 15th street. Terry profiled him a few years back in a UT article where Bob noted that he had owned the same wetsuit for 15 years. RipCurl, O'Neill and Quicksilver did not consider him one of their better customers.

The water is
Beautiful this morning. Aquamarine color, glassy, warm and crystal clear. Some waves here and there, mostly on the sets every 10-15 minutes. About waist to maybe chest high. Long, long lulls with nothing in between. Typical Friday crowd of about 30+ people. Luke, Chuck and Terry are out gazing ever westward. Good day for snorkeling, free diving or kayaking. Got lobster?

Hard to say...

The 3rd Day
Of this swell and its still got some juice. Long SSW lines rolling through producing head to head high+ sets. Most of the action is with the sets; not too much in between, even on the inside. Fair to poor shape with the sets pretty walled up and closing out. 20+ people out right now. Looks like a waiting game this morning so bring your jar of patience and you'll be fine.
No photo today due to technical difficulties which I'm working on to fix. In the mean time,
