Beautiful day with some nice waist high surf. Not very consistent but the 3 wave sets are putting out some classic Southern California summer surf in winter. Tide is still rising and will top out at 5.5 feet at 11am. Next low tide of -0.5 feet will show up around 5:15pm. No wind, glassy sea surface and only about 15 people out. If you're thinking of playing hooky from work or school, today's the day.

I know, I know, it's been a while since I posted a surf report. But I found it difficult to do a surf report for Del Mar while being in Antarctica for the last two weeks. Not to mention that there was no internet access; a blessing and a curse.
Anyway, the surf is struggling this morning to make a showing through the high tide although there are some waist high sets now and then. And I was just informed by a usually reliable source that "...it's better than it looks...".
6.0 high tide at 10am then ebbing back out to -0.5 at 5pm. 10 people out.

A jumbled mess. Waist to chest high and larger sets. Contamination from yesterday's rain is pegging the water quality meter well into the red zone. Lumpy sea surface with lots of flotsam on the inside (see video). No wind. About 6 people out. Tide is high and still rising. Will max out at 6.7feet at 9:30am. Low tide of -1.2 feet at 4:30pm.

Big, consistent and....still contaminated. Shoulder to head high, going overhead on best set waves. Shape is marginal; lined up and beginning to mush out a bit. Period is short so there are lots of double ups. Sea surface is smooth with light SE breezes. Air temps in lower 50's and water temps in the high 50's. High tide and still rising; will max out at 7.4 feet at 8:30am. A low tide of -1.8 at 3:30pm. 6 people out.

King tide with very clean conditions. The water, however, is swamped with contaminated urban runoff. Too bad because despite the 7.4 tide the waist to chest high surf looks very very good. Especially at 17th street. Moderate SE winds with some texture on the water. The run up on the sets is licking the base of the ramp. 2 people out at 17th street; no one at the reef.

Mixed up, sorta confused and definitely dirty. Predominantly westerly short period windswell this morning. Mostly waist high, maybe belly up. Slow, crumbly with no shape. Jumbled up sea surface with some light swirling easterly breezes. Medium tide that is on its way out to a 1.4 foot low at 10:15am. High tide worms its way back in at 4pm (3.6 feet). No one out but there are a few thinking about it; the urban vomit patrol I call them.

Clean little low tide lines. Some shapely knee to waist high surf rolling in this morning. Light mist so runoff hasn't started yet but as the rain picks up and lingers for the rest of the day those clean lines will turn dirty. Other than that, good conditions with moderate off shore breezes. 2.0 low tide at 8:45 am then flowing in to a 3.8 high tide at 2:15pm. 4 people out.

Calf to knee high dribblers with perfect conditions. Glassy sea surface, no wind, bright sunny skies. Considering the almost total lack of surf it's surprising to see upwards of 20 people in the water.
The water is crystal clear and if it wasn't so cold it would be a perfect snorkeling day. Kayaking might be fun though.
High tide will peak at 4.3 feet at 12:30pm. Low tide (0.7) will show up at 7:30pm.

Perfect tide (2.4 feet), light offshore breeze, clean water and clean conditions. Small yet nicely shaped surf this morning; knee to thigh high range. Haven't seen a set yet but the one person in the water is sitting pretty far out. But for the amount of people in the line up (zero now) it's probably worth a go. Smooth sea surface; air temp in the low 50's and water temps about what you would expect for this time of year. Tide will slowly flow in to a 5.0 high at 11:30am and then back out to a 0.3 foot low at 6:30pm.
