Glassy conditions with knee to waist high surf. Looks like this energy is the result of a NW and W wind swell. Peaky conditions. Not a lot of juice and the tide is high so it's mostly close in and shore break stuff. Over cast with some light patchy fog. Water temp is back up in the 70's so that's good. Incoming tide with max flood right now (7:30am). Will end up at a 5.4 high at 10am. Turn around begins around 11am and bottoms out at 1.2 feet at 3:30pm. About 10 people out.

Except for some occasional southern pulses not much going on this morning. Slow, rolling waist high surf muddling through a 4.7 foot high tide. On shore breeze causing some surface texture and crumbly shape. Crowd had thinned out from yesterdays high of 50 or so down to about 20. 2.0 low tide at 1:30pm. Water temps in the mid 60's. Clearing skies.

Slow, mushy waist high surf, on shore breeze, and a lot of people in the water. Perfect. Smooth sea surface with some left over bump from yesterday's winds. There's really not much surf this morning which pretty much guarantees 6 people on every "wave". A 3.9 high tide just happened at 6am; a 2.6 low at 11am. Water is still cool by San Diego summer standards; mid to upper 60's. About 35 people out.

A bit more size but not as clean. Most of the soft, slow waist high surf is being generated by a short period NW wind swell. Some larger peaks here and there. Bumpy sea surface with a moderate west wind. Fair shape with poor+ conditions. Water temps have come back up to the high 60's and possibly 70 or so. A 2.3 foot low tide at 9:30am then back up to a 5.8 high at 4pm. Max tide push at 1:30pm. 8 people out.

Classes have begun at the Palomar Cabinet and Furniture Technology program and I'm the TA for classes on Monday and Tuesday mornings; so no surf reports on those days.

Meanwhile, back at the beach we have a glassy sea surface undulating with some knee to thigh high surf. Not much juice at all and breaking close in. Still, the crowd is light enough that some short rides are possible on the set waves. Long boards with lots of volume are a key piece of equipment this morning. No wind, with a tide that will bottom out (1.9) in about an hour. 5.7 foot high tide at 3pm. 2 people out.

More surf; much more crowded. Inconsistent waist to chest high surf pushing in from the south. And pretty much flat in between all the excitement. Shape is fair to good; smooth sea surface and incoming tide. Crowd size is a major bummer; 50+ and climbing. Oh, and the water temp has dropped to the mid 60s so I'd wear a full suit. A 5.5 tide at 11am then back down to a 1.0 low at 4:30pm.

Slightly larger but not by much. Knee to waist high surf in some lumpy water. Light on shore breeze. Inconsistent southerly sets rolling in; and rolling and rolling and rolling till they fold over as shore break. One thing is way larger; the crowd. I count 20. Sitting around waiting for the new swell to show up as advertised. I think you'll need to travel further north to see it at all. Tide is coming up and is just about at its max flow right now. Will be at 5.2 around 10:30am. A 1.2 low tide at 4pm.

Lumpy, sloppy and small. Crossed up local wind swell peaks pushing through a roughed up sea surface. Knee to thigh high shore break. Rising tide; 5 feet at 10am. 1.5 foot low at 3pm. Cooler sea temps. Five people out. What a day. What a day ...

Big change from yesterday. Foggy with west winds. Surf is knee to waist high with poor shape breaking very close in. Sea surface is pretty hacked up from the wind. Subpar surf morning in Del Mar. Tide is rising to a 4.7 high at 9:30am. Low tide of 1.8 at 2:30pm. Two people out.

Lots of wind bump left over from yesterday. Sloppy, knee to waist high surf with poor shape and poor conditions overall. If you sit way inside you might snag a corner here and there. But that will be in about 12" of water. Water temps have dropped slightly into the high 60's. Incoming tide that will top out at 4.4 feet at 9am. Ebb begins in earnest at noon ending up at 2.1 feet at 2pm. 2 people out.

Still tiny. How tiny? On the precipice of flat. The only waves are ankle high shore break stuff. So again, this is a good day for kayaking, diving, fishing or just walking on the beach. Sea surface has a slight riffle on it and there are some light swirling breezes. Cloudy but clearing skies. Just now high tide (3.4 ft) with a 2.7 low due to show up at 2:15pm. 4 people on soft tops out.

Small, glassy and ??? Perfect menehune surf. Slightly over calf high, it going to take a really thick and long board to get moving on the waves this morning. Glassy sea surface with no breeze and crystal clear water. A great day to break out the kayaks and paddle down to La Jolla shores and back or snorkel, free dive or swim about. Do all of that. Ebb tide ending up with a 2.6 low at 10am then back up to a 5.0 high at 5pm.

Smaller than yesterday; just over calf high. But conditions are perfecto. Smooth sea surface with offshore breezes grooming these tiny peelers into actual surf; shorebreak surf but sometimes you just have to work with what you've got. Clearing skies with patches of sun here and there. Tide is ebbing to a 2.3 low at 8:30am then flowing in to a 4.8 high at 2:45pm. 3 people out.

A nice calm morning not marred by surf; or much surf anyway. Essentially flat with some rare ankle to knee high waves trying their best to make it shoreward. I stand corrected; Greg just came in and wants everyone to know there are "definitely some fun one footers out there". A light SW breeze comes and goes causing a few ripples on the sea surface. Tide is still on the way out and will hit 1.9 feet around 8am. High tide is at 3pm (4.8'). 4 people out.

Slow, mushy knee to waist high surf with some occasional chest high sets. South swell has just about dropped out with a short period west wind swell taking over. Sea surface has a slight bump to it but the wave faces are glassy. Mostly breaking on the inside sand bars. A light Monday crowd of about 10 people. Low tide is right now, flowing into a 4.8 high at 2 pm. Max tide flow will be at 11am.

Extremely crowded! 50+ people out in chest to head high surf. Fair shape; could use more tide. Plenty of waves; closed out sets. Smooth sea surface conditions with some light swirling eddy winds. Best bet to try to avoid the crowd seems to be south of peak and in front of the grass. Grey overcast skies. Tide low but rising to a 5.1 high at noon then ebbing to 1.7 feet at 6pm.

Looks like the south swell is too steep for Del Mar. So we are left with knee to waist high westerly wind swell. Breaking close in with crumbly shape. Some rare peaks on the outside. But it's not crowded; 7 people out. Sea surface is lumpy; no wind. Tide is on the rise to 5.1 feet at 11am. 1.5 low at 4:30pm. Overcast but clearing skies.

Complete opposite of yesterday; it's lumpy, choppy and small. Knee to waist high lumps struggling shoreward. Wind swirling around from all directions and low tide. A below average surfing day. Next high tide (5.0) will show up at 10:30am then back out to a 1.5 low at 4pm. 13 people out.

Fat, waist to chest high surf. Powered by a decent south swell. But as you would expect, long lulls between sets with little in-between. Glassy sea surface; no wind. Best lefts are peeling off just south of the reef; steepest waves and best close outs are right on the reef. The line up is packed and snakes abound. Skies are clearing and it looks like the surf fishing is pretty good. Tide is coming up and will peak at 4.9 feet around 10am. Low will be 1.6 feet at 3pm.
