Everything is grey. The water, the sky. And the surf? Well, it's actually pretty good; inconsistent but good. A nice south swell sweeping into Del Mar this morning giving us some chest to shoulder high sets. Other than the set action it's kinda flat so be prepared to wait. Glassy conditions with just a hint of NW breeze. A little fat at 15th street with the reefs at 11th and 8th showing more size and punch. About 20 people out. A 4.2 high tide was just an hour ago so that is slowing things down a little. Next low will be at noon (.4).

South swell is beginning to show and the Memorial Day crowd is all over it. Inconsistent surf is in the waist to chest zone with fair+ shape. Smooth sea surface conditions. No wind; some light drizzle. Tide is on the way out but it's still high enough to mess with shape and juice. Next low is at 11am (.4 ft). A crowd of 40 is hampering navigation just a wee bit.

More swell! More wind! The chest to head high surf has been offset by winds blasting out of the SW this morning. It's pretty jumbled, bumpy and overall, sloppy. No peaks or shoulders. Not much of anything really but whitewater. Plenty of that. Incoming tide reaches its zenith at 10am (4.1) and then turns around to a low of 1.4 feet at 3pm. About 10 people out.

Hefty SW eddy winds have put some serious crinkle on the water. Surf is in the knee to waist high zone; weak and crumbly and having a hard time pushing through the high tide. Overall, poor conditions with anemic surf. 4.2 high tide at 9am with low following at 2:30pm (1.4). About a dozen people out desperately scratching for some face time. A day for a long board; a really, really long board.

4.1 high tide; strong SW eddy winds; waist to chest high blown out west wind swell. Poor conditions and getting worse. Not much out there this morning to ride...not a surf day in Del Mar. Low tide will be 0.7 feet at 1 pm. 3 people out.

Tide's right. Wind's right. Crowd's wrong. Some nice waist to chest high lines showing this morning. Fair to fair+ shape with about 20 people out. Clean conditions, light offshore breeze. Low tide is at 10:30am (0.2) then flows in to a 4.4 high at 5:30 pm.

Hmmm; May grey, coastal eddy winds, dropping tide, and tiny crumbled waves. Not real appetizing. Mostly flat with some occasional bursts of steeply angled south swell surf. Ankle to waist high, lumpy sea surface with winds out of the NW. Poor conditions overall. But the water temp is in the mid 60's; gotta like that. Tide will bottom out at -0.1 feet at 9:30am the creep back up to a 4.1 high at 4:30pm. No one out at the reef; 3 people out at Las Palmas.

Minus tide lines. Some very drained out and weak knee to waist high surf this morning. Could improve with more water. Glassy conditions with just a hint of bump left over from yesterday's winds. Zero wind and air temperature in the mid to low 60's. Navigation hazard alert; pilings from the old pier have been exposed. They are right in front of the ramp so steer clear going out and coming in. Tide will reach max flow at 9am and reach 4.2 feet at 1pm. Next low of 1.8 feet at 6pm. 2 people out.

Rain. With some surprisingly clean conditions (wave shape and sea surface; NOT water quality). Waist to chest high lines; larger on the sets. Side shore (SSE) wind. The storm drain that empties onto the beach at 15th street is running full tilt. Right. Directly. To. The. Reef. So if your one of the three knuckleheads out in the water this morning, enjoy your hepatitis, or diarrhea or sore throat or ear infections. You've earned them.

Few and far between. And it's beginning to rain. Some infrequent waist to chest high south swell lines popping up. A bit soft but the shape is pretty good. Some texture on the water but no wind at present. Inside section is best this morning. Tide is coming up; 5.2 feet at 9:1am. A 0.2 low shows up at 3pm. About 15-20 people out. Rain is picking up.

High tide (5.0) is putting a crimp on the surf this morning. Some waist high stuff limping in, trying desperately to be surfable. Sets are a little bigger but still no juice there either. Lumpy sea surface conditions. A NW wind is starting up. The sun is out, the air is warm and the Grey whales are pushing northward just outside the reef. Tide will begin at max ebb at 11am resulting in a -0.1 low at 1:30pm. 2 people out.

Some very clean and very sneaky south lines pushing through this morning. Shoulder to head high, with the high tide warble. Inconsistent with flat conditions between the sets. Almost glassy conditions. Hard to catch but that should improve when the tide drops out sometime between 10 and 11am. 8 people out. Low tide is at 1pm (0.0) and the high tide will be at 7:20pm (5.4). So as long as the wind stays down it looks like a surf day, all day, from 10am on.
