Knee to waist high surf with a rising tide. Good conditions and fair shape. Summer crowd is out there (15) with more arriving. This is a pick and choose day. That and being at the right place when a peak decides to pop up. Better than yesterday but then that's not saying much. Looks fun though so get out there and enjoy it.

Fat, funky and full. With 2 hours till high tide the surf is pretty slow and fat. Thigh to waist high short period, doubled up wind swell mushburgers. Left over chop leaves us with poor sea surface conditions. Overall, a below average surf day in Del Mar. But the water is warm and the sun will be out soon. Going to be a nice day I predict.

Looking pretty sad this morning. Ankle to thigh high shore break. And that's it. Glassy conditions, light breeze from the north and overcast skies. Tide is high but on its way out to a 1.8 low around 11:30am. Water's warm and the stingrays have already nicked a few folks. So shuffle, shuffle, shuffle!

Leftovers. Swell energy has dropped off significantly. Leaving us with weak knee to waist high surf. Light westerly breeze has put crumble on the waves and ripple on the water. It's not that it's really bad, just that compared to the last few days it's kinda junky. Tide is on the ebb to a 1.6 low around 11am. About 15 people out.

More energy. More people. Waist to chest high surf this morning with some shoulder to head high sets. Peaky set up with a medium tide. Close to glassy conditions. Shape is fair to good depending on your lineup. The sandbar in front of the grass is pitching, the reef is slow and rolley, and the southerly set up is probably the best right now. Except for the sets everything is breaking very close in. But, as with all swells that last longer than a day, the crowd is in it. At least 30 people out with more arriving. Snakes abound...

More size. Waist to chest with shoulder to head high sets. A lot of west to this swell so the sets are long and walled up. Clean conditions with just a hint of ripple on the water. Larger and more consistent around 11th street but the best shape is just south of the reef. About 20 people out.

Small scale, low tide surf. Thigh to waist high with fair shape. Clean, glassy conditions. SSW swell direction, so expect it to be somewhat inconsistent. Slow and gentle with some nice peaks and left shoulders. More size than yesterday but way less crowded. About 12 people out. Looks like a go to me.

Minus tide, minimal swell and FOG. Can't see much beyond the shore break but what I can see is small. Very, very small. Ankle to calf high at best. Westerly breeze swirling around too. But it would be an excellent morning for a beach walk. I'm thinking one could make it all the way to Scripps pier from here. So if you try it, let me know how it went.

Just an hour off a -1.0 tide and it looks like it. Lots and lots of beach, surf is scarce. Weak knee to thigh high waves dribbling in and meekly making their way to shore. And to top it off, a brisk NW wind is putting a crinkle on the water and a crumble on the waves. 2 people out. Not much out there this morning. Tomorrow; maybe tomorrow. That's what keeps me coming back.

Drained! Incoming tide but still suffering from the effects of a -1.4 tide 2 hours ago. Yet somehow there are still some rideable waves. Not great waves but decent knee to waist high peaks and the occasional racy wall. Inconsistent and the lineup is clumped together right on top of the reef. Glassy conditions, overcast skies and just a hint of a SW breeze. About 10 people out.

NW breeze just getting started but still good conditions overall. Surfwise there is a bit more swell, in the thigh to waist high zone. Average shape; nothing special. Tide is low now but on the rise to a 4.4 at 10:45am. Heavy overcast, fog and drizzle. A perfect June morning in San Diego.

NW wind has put a touch of morning sickness on the water this morning. Surf is in the calf to thigh high zone. Weak, mushy and breaking close in. Tide is rising to a 4.4 at 10am and then back out to a 1.5 low around 3pm. Thick marine layer with some drizzle here and there.

Super clean conditions; weak surf. Glassy with knee to waist high waves pushing through a rising tide. Swell still has some south to it but it's dropped off in size and juice. Period has become shorter and the surf even less predictable. Some corners here and there mostly to the north and south of the reef. About a dozen people out.

Blown out. SW wind. All hacked up. Still some southerly swell in the water but not coming from a good angle for Del Mar. Knee to thigh high crumble and that's about it. Poor conditions overall. Tide is receding to a 0.8 low at noon and working its way back up to a 6.1 at 6:30pm.

Overcast skies, clean conditions with a light SE breeze just getting started. Surf is in the knee to waist high zone but breaking really close in. Some peakyness to it with waves standing up all along the length of the reef. High tide is keeping it weak and mushy but that should improve as the tide drops to a low of 0.6 around 11am. After that a 5.6 high tide pushes in around 5:30pm. The SE breeze is beginning to spin up into "wind" status. The race is on...

Funky, hazy morning
Funky, hazy surf. Heavy mist shrouding the beach this morning. Not a wet mist but looking through it veils everything in a "creative soft focus". Waist to chest high surf with mushy crumbly shape and lots of surface bump. Some of it left over from yesterday and a lot of it from a moderate NW wind swirling through. Poor surf and conditions. Tide is on its way out to a 0.3 low around 10am and up to a 5.1 at 4:45 this afternoon. About 12 people out.

Cleaner, larger and better shape. Waist to chest high and shoulder to head high on the sets. Predominant south swell so be prepared to sit and wait some. Fair surface conditions with a NW wind trying to get started. Tide is on the way out to a -0.1 at 9am then back up to a 4.1 high around 4pm. About 12 people out; plenty of room.

Tide is negative, winds have calmed and swell has backed off. Still, there is some surf this morning. You just have to wait for it. Waist to chest short period wind swell with the best stuff on the sets. Sets are chest to shoulder with some decent corners. Good sea surface conditions with just a hint of ripple. Incoming tide will max out at a 4.1 around 1pm.

Poor conditions again this morning. SW wind is on it already putting a lot of bump and chop on the water. Swell is hanging around but has a little bit more west than the last few days. Chest to shoulder is the norm with plus sets. Shape is poor and crumbly. Lots of whitewater. Tide is low coming up to a 4.1 at noon. 10 people out.

Bigger!
And, unfortunately, windy. Very windy. A strong SW wind has really hacked things up this morning. Poor conditions overall. Surf is being generated by a long period SW swell. Shoulder to head high with + sets. Shape is crummy and tide is low. Expect a 4.1 high tide around 11am. Beginning to drizzle. About 25 people out. So, lots of size but not many rides.

Decent waves. Long waits. Southerly energy in the water this morning producing some fun looking waist to chest high surf. However, it's going to take local knowledge of the line up for this swell direction to be in the right place at the right time. The crew is pretty well spread out this morning but tending to be mostly at the southern end of the reef. Good conditions. Smooth sea surface. Calm winds. Tide is on the way up to a 4.1 around 10:30am. About 10 people out.

Overcast skies, clean conditions and small waves. Smooth sea surface. Calm winds. Surf has dropped off a bit from the last few days. Knee to waist high breaking fairly close in. Some slightly larger set waves but wait, wait and wait for those you will. Tide is on the rise to a 4.1 around 10am. About 10 people out.
