A bit lumpy I'm afraid. Winds are calm but there is a fair amount of bump and texture on the water this morning. Knee to waist high surf is trying desperately to punch through the rising tide but not having much luck. Lots of double ups and waves just not breaking till way inside. There are 7 people out trying to make the best of it. A 4.3 high tide at 7:30am then ebbing to a 0.6 low around 1:30pm. Sun is out and it's going to be another great day in San Diego! Ain't it great to live here!

Dribs and drabs...

Small, short period left over windswell this morning. Slow and lumbering. Knee to waist high with poor shape and no juice. Sea surface conditions are excellent and wind is calm. Tide is high and will be dropping to a 0.5 low around 1 this afternoon. 3 people out. Other than that it looks like it's going to be a most excellent beach day.

Some sizeable surf grinding its way to shore this morning. Chest to shoulder to head high; larger sets. And a moderate offshore wind. That's the good news. On the other hand it's a short period westy that's very jumbled up with not much focus. Shape is fair to poor. Largest north and south of the reef. Tide is high with 8 people out.

Wet, drippy and

Very clean conditions. Smooth sea surface, aquamarine water and calm winds. Wave are rare but very crisp and well defined. Mostly waist to chest high. Sets are larger but closed out. Tide is dropping and that is having a negative effect on shape. 10 people out.

Minus tide blues

-0.6 tide this morning (7am). Lots and lots of beach but not much surf. Small (ankle to knee) and drained out by the tide. Cold wind out of the south, heavy dark cloud cover with some sprinkles. The morning crew is out (10) picking off a corner here and there for some short rides before the wind really takes it apart. Not a surf day; maybe not even a beach day.

Mostly flat with an occasional ankle to calf high wave. Tide is just one hour off a - 0.8 tide but I wouldn't count on the tide push to help. At all. Light to moderate onshore breezes with light surface bump. Thick marine layer and cooler temps. Water temp is in the low 60's. A below average surf day in San Diego.

Lots of beach this morning

Super low tide equals prime beach walking conditions this morning. Surf, not so much. Some leftover swell from the weekend plus some local windswell. Weak knee to waist high dribblers with smooth surface conditions. Calm wind, 4 people out. Overcast skies with patches of blue here and there.

Mellow yellow

Smallish fun size surf on tap this morning. Knee to waist high; slightly larger on the sets. Definitely a long board session. Fair shape, good sea surface conditions and 10 people out. Light offshores. The winds of the last few days have produced an upwelling and you know what that means; cold water.

You know it's going to be exciting...

When the shore break is shoulder to head high. Very short period west swell is producing some plus size surf this morning. Routinely shoulder high with the sets well overhead. Shape is crossed up and sketchy. Some better peaks slightly inside but then you end up playing "whack a mole "; you being the mole and the sets being the mallet. Glassy conditions with a 5.4 high tide right now. Dropping to a -0.4 around 2 pm so plan your beach walk accordingly. 4 people out.

Slow going

Light onshore breeze, bumpy surface conditions and uncooperative surf are the highlights of this morning's report. Surfable waves are rare and somewhat crumbly and mushy. Mostly waist high. The reef is almost flat but the south peak has got a little something going. Tide is high with 7 people out.

Touch of grey...

Heavy cloud cover this morning. Surf wise it's very clean with glassy conditions. Mostly knee to waist high, inconsistent slow rollers. 18th street has the best peak this morning with some steep faces and a few scattered barrels. The reef is slow and mushy; not that exciting. Tide is on the way out to a minus 0.4 around noon.

At a loss for words...

It's small, weak, mushy and the tide is still going out. Knee to thigh high and going nowhere. Calm winds, one person out.

Oh well...

It can only get better, right? Poor conditions with major chop on the water this morning. The surf isn't much better with weak knee to maybe thigh high mush burgers dribbling in. Low tide now rising to about 3.9 around noon. 5 people out.

The weather however, is incredible. Abundant sunshine, amazing visibility with calm winds. One of those brilliant SoCal days.

Westerly windswell

Small knee to thigh high surf this morning. Conditions have improved from yesterday but the waves continue to be meager and meek. Tide is on the rise to 4.0 around noon but not even the tide push is going to help. Cooler temps with a light easterly breeze.

Aftermath

This is what the ocean looks like the day after strong onshore winds; messy and hacked up. Waist high junk. Poor conditions, low tide and (the good news), no crowds. This is going to take a few days to sort out (assuming no more winds like we had on Sunday). So relax, be patient and someone please sacrifice one of your old surfboards in an effort to generate some decent surf.

Looking kinda raggedy...

Unfocused short period chest to shoulder high surf mostly out of the WNW. Light offshore breeze and abundant sunshine. Conditions are good but the surf is well, what I call raggedy. No shape and waves right on top of each other. No rhyme, no rhythm, no reason. Tide is rising to a 5.0 at 9:40am.

Change in direction

The formerly predominant south swell has vanished and a sizable west swell has moved in to fill the void. Surf is in the shoulder to head high zone. Light offshore breeze. Tide is rising. Tres Palms is absolutely pitching as is the south peak. The reef is a bit softer but it has the most size. Sets pushing 7-8 feet. Shape is sketchy with absolutely no where to go on the sets. About 5 people out.
