One of these days
There will be surf again. I promise. Not sure when exactly but this can't go on forever. Can it? Small scale (knee to thigh) left over wind swell. Weak and having a hard time making it to shore. Fair surface conditions due to some lump on the water. A below average surf day. But don't tell that to the 20 people in the line up. On the plus side, the weather is just about as good as it gets. So...

Sun's out...

It's alive, it's alive!
Some small scale wave activity this morning. Mixed up jumble of mostly windswell with some underlying southerly stuff. Knee to thigh high. Slow and weak; not breaking till it morphs into shorebreak. Poor to fair conditions and poor surf shape and focus. No one out but Reid.

Well, well, well.
What have we here? Some signs of life? It's wind swell. It's doubled up. It's small. It's low tide. Knee to thigh high warbly, sloppy dribblers fighting their way to the sand. Nothing much to ride but compared to the last 2 weeks it's surf heaven. It's good to know that we haven't yet become just another Lake Michigan.

A bit more
Energy in the water this morning. Not enough for surfing but at least it's not dead flat. Lumpy surface conditions with knee high shore break cruising in. Unremarkable really but showing some signs of life at last. Can it come back from flatlining?

I'm merely the messenger...
Ok, it has been small for almost two weeks now but this morning hits a new metric. It's so small as to be unmeasurable. The only thing that's moving is the beach kelp cleaner upper. Glassy conditions, good tide, no waves. How long can this go on? How long can I go on with no surf?

Deceiving
As someone observed yesterday, it's worse than it looks. Small scale windswell peaks here and there but they aren't amounting to anything but shore dribble. South west breeze has put some texture on the water. Poor conditions, poor surf. Oh, and the water has cooled down to about 64-65. Ahhhhh, summer!

Walk to the lineup
The incredibly smooth sea surface is certainly unblemished by any surf this morning. Some occasional ankle high shore break and that's about it. Since the surf has been a no show for about a week now, water clarity and visibility are excellent. So go out in the garage, find your snorkeling gear and push out to some of the near shore reefs. You will probably see some leopard sharks.

Maybe a tiny bit bigger
But it's still impossibly small. Swarms of micro lines are pulsing through with oily glassy surface conditions. Only to fold over as ankle high shore break. There is nothing to see here. These aren't the waves you are looking for.
It would be an awesome day for paddle boards and kayaks though.

Searchin'
If you're out searching for surf this morning expect to be disappointed. It is flat with occasional extreme flatness. Some knee high shore break and that's it. Glassy conditions, no wind, overcast skies and 70 degree water. So it's not all bad.

Speed bumps
Yep, that's about the size of it this morning. Little grey green knee high wind swell bumps rolling in. Very weak and not even breaking till they become shorebreak. Good conditions, crummy surf. Dropping tide, a light NE breeze and 4 people out.

Lake Michigan
Sloppy with a lot of surface chop. Localized wind swell is generating some ankle high waves. Line up is kinda hard to figure out. Guess I'll go find one of the locals to clue me in. I'm gong to need a translator though; a very strange dialect is spoken here.

In between
Glassy conditions with a light NW breeze. A wind swell is providing all of the energy this morning and it's topping out just shy of knee high. Not good. Not good at all. But the crowd of 20+ would probably argue that with me. However, seeing what's going on the south shore of Oahu leads me to believe that we may start to see some southern energy show up Friday on into the weekend.

Taco Tuesday
Calm, almost glassy conditions. A very slight south west puff of air at times. The south swell is gone but there is a tiny, short period windswell in the water. That's managing to produce some knee high softies. There is a somewhat rideable peak on the inside just south of the reef. The crowd has thinned out considerably; 6 people.

Crowded for a Monday
Surf is hanging around this morning with some waist to maybe chest high waves. Sets are a bit larger with long lulls in between. Light NE breeze has put some texture on the water but nothing serious. Shape is not as good as yesterday; sets are lined up and mostly closing out with a few corners to be had if you're in the right spot. Kinda crowded for a Monday; I count 30 people in the line up with more arriving.

Nasty south wind
Afternoon conditions first thing in the morning. South wind has put some serious chop on the water this morning; almost blown out. Waist+ crumblers with poor shape to go with the poor conditions. Not much out there this morning except wind. Maybe conditions will improve as we move through the day, right?

Half the crowd
And maybe half the waves. 15 people out with fair surface conditions and waist to chest surf. Fair to poor shape. Long lulls and slim pickings between sets. And like yesterday the set waves are long lined up walls with a corner here and there. Some of the crew went up to SanO today. Can't wait to hear how it was there.
