Misty Morning...

Lots and lots of mist hanging in the air this morning. Produced by the large waves and slight on shore flow. So, here's what's on tap this morning: head high with overhead plus sets. Fair shape with closed out sets. Good conditions, calm winds and a rising tide. The line up of 30+ is spread out across the reef and to the south; not so much to the north.

This is a short period swell so getting out will bring on some arm burn and unless you can duck dive you're going to be at it for a while. The lot is full, the street is overflowing, so lots of folks are giving it a go.

Very clean, very glassy...

Very flat. Ankle slappers breaking about 50 feet from shore. Not much else to say except that the first waves of the forecast ginormous swell are due to arrive at sunset. That would be nice.

If you're thinking that with the cooling water temps you don't have to do the "shuffle"; think again.

Don't be fooled...

By the seeming lack of juice. Yes, at first glance it looks fairly nondescript and featureless. Hang around long enough though and you might snag a head high set wave (or two). Waist to shoulder with those occasional head high bombs. The tide is really high (up against the bluffs) so there is a tad too much water right now for the consistency we seek. Clean, glassy conditions. Surf should improve with the ebb tide around 8 am. 4 people out.

Dense fog advisory

Difficult to see the line up through the fog but I think I'm seeing some slow rolling shoulder to head high waves. Can't really tell how many people are out either but I'm guesstimating 20-30 from the parked cars. I hear that it's bright and sunny at Terra Mar but that the tide is squashing wave activity there. What to do. What to do.

Foggy with offshores...

I know, those two don't go together yet, that's what it is this morning. Very clean conditions with a fresh WNW swell lighting up 15th street. Some SW stuff in there too. Head high plus with fair shape although the largest of the set waves are lined up, walled up, closed out monsters. And they are relentless. Looks like the best paddle out zone is south of the reef. Monster crowd too; 50+.

A grey day...

Short period NNW stuff on tap this morning. All over the place with no real focus; on or off the reef. Sets are in the chest to shoulder range with fair shape. Rising tide is beginning to swamp things a bit. Best on the inside sections. About 30 people out.

Lots of west in the water

Fairly clean conditions, chest to shoulder high, larger on the sets. Some decent peaks here and there but the sets are long, walled up lines with no where to go. Clear skies with a breath of an offshore. Rising tide with about 35-40 people out. More than yesterday I think.

Better tide

But no swell, no waves and 16 groms in the water. I don't think less tide will help; there's just no energy in the water this morning. A new short period WNW swell is supposed to show up sometime just before sunset but right now it's flat.

If you're planning on hitting it anyway this morning, it's street parking only; the Walk for the Cure has the parking lot.

Not much beach this morning!

And the tide is still rising to a peak of 7.1 around 9 am. So, suffice it to say that what swell is out there doesn't have much of a chance. But there is a swell showing and if you sit on the inside you may be able to run down waist high+ surf. Slight surface bump, calm winds and 9 people out.

It's a beautiful autumn morning

Started off downright cold (44) earlier this morning but now it's warming up nicely. Soft offshores, not a cloud in the sky nor any surf to wrinkle the ocean surface. Actually, there is a hint of some westerly swell but the tide is too high and the swell to weak to produce any meaningful surf. Some knee to waist sets appear from time to time but they show on the outside and are then swallowed by the 6.0 high tide.

There may not be much in the way of surf but its a great day to get outside and enjoy it.

Tempest in a teapot

Strong west winds this morning with Victory at Sea conditions. Surf is waist to chest high and there are zero people out. I don't understand why...there is usually at least one person out no matter what. If crowds bum your trip today is your day!

Big Wednesday?

Nope. Unless a huge crowd counts. There are easily 60 people in the line up. Clean conditions, no wind to speak of, waist to shoulder high; larger on the sets. Best shape and size just south of the reef. This is a medium period westerly swell so the set waves are lined up, about 10 seconds apart and closing out. It will be much much better with the departure of about 40 or 50 people.

Just another manic Monday

Clean conditions, clear skies and some tasty waist to shoulder high surf. Sets are lined up a bit but some decent shoulders here and there. In between stuff has the best shape with the lefts slightly better than the rights. But it's very crowded; at least 40 people out. That should get better as they leave for work. Looks like its going to be a great day so...

Waves??

Clean conditions, offshore breezes, and some westerly swell pushing in. Sets are shoulder to head but lined up and closing out. Tweeners are about waist to chest high. Kinda rolley with some steeper inside sections. Fair shapeTypical Friday crowd of about 45-50 people. Lot is crowded, street parking is at a premium. Come on down. Bring your friends.
